Paul McGann stars in the forthcoming full-cast audio drama box set, Deadly Strangers, which includes a story by the writer of his very first adventure, the 1996 Doctor Who TV movie.
Tumblr media
The Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann) and his companions Charley Pollard (India Fisher) and Lady Audacity Montague (Jaye Griffiths) have three brand-new audio adventures in store in The Eighth Doctor Adventures: Deadly Strangers, due for release in December 2024.
The Doctor, Audacity and Charley visit many times and places, always with the best of intentions. But others have a different agenda.
An alien princess takes an interest in Puccini, a visitor to Iceland causes chaos, and a lethal interloper slips into the dreams of a sleeping population. Some strangers have deadly intent...
The first of the three stories, Puccini and the Doctor, is written by Matthew Jacobs, the screenwriter of 1996’s Doctor Who: The Movie. Jacobs was the first person to write for Paul McGann’s Doctor and this audio drama marks his first time penning any Doctor Who media since then.
In Jacobs' story, the TARDIS arrives in Milan at the turn of the twentieth century, where the time travellers encounter legendary opera composer, Giacomo Puccini (voiced by Tim McInnerny, known for Blackadder, Game of Thrones, and Doctor Who: Planet of the Ood). But the Doctor’s not the only alien around with an interest in the music of love.
Doctor Who – The Eighth Doctor Adventures: Deadly Strangers is now available to pre-order as a collector’s edition 3-disc CD box set (+ download for just £22.99) or as a digital download only (for just £18.99), exclusively here.
The three new adventures for the Eighth Doctor and his companions are:
Puccini and the Doctor by Matthew Jacobs Women’s Day Off by Lisa McMullin The Gloaming by Lauren Mooney & Stewart Pringle
Producer David Richardson said: “How brilliant to have Matthew Jacobs return to the series to write Puccini and the Doctor – a man so dedicated that he woke up at 4am in Los Angeles to listen in to our studio recordings! He’s given us a lovely and imaginative tale, which feels very much in the spirit of the Eighth Doctor TV movie.”
Matthew Jacobs said: “This is the first time I've written a Doctor Who adventure since 1996. The Doctor is such an integral part of my life, so it's been fascinating over the years to see it grow and grow. Paul has kept the Doctor alive at Big Finish in a marvellous way and he has become so much more sophisticated as a character than when we were starting.   “I was over the moon when script editor Matt Fitton asked me to put together a story. We discussed that this version of Paul's Doctor is a bit closer to the TV movie Doctor – inquisitive, not as embittered as he gets through the Time War.   “The idea that stuck out was one where I got to deal with some unfinished business from the TV movie. In the movie, the Doctor says how sad it was that Puccini never got to finish Turandot, and it was the bane of his life towards the end. I wanted to tell a story to do with the nature of how we use music and how we search for love.”
Big Finish listeners can save money by pre-ordering Deadly Strangers in a multi-buy bundle with the previous Eighth Doctor Adventures box set, Echoes, for just £44 (collector’s edition CD + download) or £36 (download only) exclusively here.
All the above prices include the special pre-order discount and are subject to change after general release.

With Matthew Jacobs now writing for Big Finish, it’s even more frustrating that Grace is stuck in rights hell.

Welcome to my page!! <3
Hiiiii! Making this post for folks who come across my page to know what they're getting into haha:
I don't use my name on Tumblr for personal reasons so just refer to me as my username for now (:
20, she/her/hers, huge fan of Stranger Things, Outer Banks, Criminal Minds, classic/modern rock music, old movies (preferably in the genres of fantasy or gothic horror/drama), and anything that features Joseph Quinn, Drew Starkey, Matthew Gray Gubler, or Jacob Elordi.
I've been using Tumblr since I was like 15 but I've never actually published anything because social media confuses me sometimes haha but as an English/Com student, I figured it was about damn time to find fun in writing again. Please just bear with me while I learn the ropes to this blog and I beg of you to send me requests and suggestions so I can get these writing muscles movin'!

Solas and Numbers 23:23
This is another old "essay" I wrote last year after completing Inquisition and Trespasser for the first time.
The Well of Sorrows quest is called “What Pride had Wrought,” and this title is a direct reference to a biblical passage that serves as foreshadowing for Trespasser, and possibly Dreadwolf. We’re told at least once in the game that Solas means “Pride.” The Nightmare demon in the raw fade says, "Dirth ma, harellan. Ma banal enasalin. Mar solas ena mar din." (I know you, trickster. That was no victory. Your pride will be your death.)
The phrase “what pride had wrought” means “what pride had done/caused.” What has Solas done regarding the Temple of Mythal, Mythal herself, or the Well of Sorrows? This could foreshadow Solas revealing himself as Fen'Harel later on in the game. It won't be the first time the devs hid meaning in a quest title - famously, Solas's personal quest, "All New Faded for Her" is an anagram of "Dread Wolf Fen'Harel." Not a stretch to say something similar is happening with this title.
The quest title got even more interesting when I realized that the phrase “What Pride had Wrought” originates from a biblical passage, Numbers 23:23 -
"Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!"
Matthew Henry, a 17th century British minister famous for his commentary and exposition of the bible, says that this passage means:
“Men change their minds, and break their words; but God never changes his mind, and therefore never recalls his promise. And when in Scripture he is said to repent, it does not mean any change of his mind; but only a change of his way.”
God in this context is sounding a little like someone else we know, right? If we substitute Solas (Pride) for God, as the writers have done with the quest title, Henry’s interpretation still rings true. Solas refuses to change his mind or break the promise he made to himself to restore the world to the state before the fall of Arlathan. This could be seen as foreshadowing for Solas revealing himself as Fen'harel and committing to tear down the veil in Trespasser.
The second part, “when… he is said to repent, it does not mean any change of his mind, it is only a change of his way” is very interesting to me. If we’re buying my argument that you can sub Solas for God here, it could imply an allyship with Solas in Dreadwolf - that he can repent without changing his mind about what needs to be done, but he’ll change his actions in a way that could help the protagonist? Idk.
The second part also has implications about his relationship with Lavellan. He has not changed his mind about Lavellan, but he has changed his way - instead of continuing the path of a relationship with her, he changes back to the solitary path of Din'Anshiral.
Solas’ fatal flaw, Pride, causes him to behave like God, namely that Solas makes sweeping, unilateral decisions about the fate of the world. He has no right to do that, because as he says many times, he is no god. Ironically, Solas despises the fact that the other elven mages pretend to be gods, or endeavor to behave like God. However, in single-handedly making decisions on behalf of basically all living beings, Solas is acting as a god, as much as he says he believes he is not one. And those actions result in destroying his world and everything he loves. And he’s ready to do the same damn thing all over again in an attempt to “fix” how badly he messed up the first time!
So is the quest title, “What Pride had Wrought” merely foreshadowing (foreshadowing our discovery of everything Solas has done, and what he decides to do) or does it mean that even though Solas has committed to this path, he may repent later? Or that he still holds the torch for a romanced Lavellan? I can't wait to find out!

Public Domain Black History Books
For the day Frederick Douglass celebrated as his birthday (February 14, Douglass Day, and the reason February is Black History Month), here's a selection of historical books by Black authors covering various aspects of Black history (mostly in the US) that you can download For Free, Legally And Easily!
Slave Narratives
This comprised a hugely influential genre of Black writing throughout the 1800s - memoirs of people born (or kidnapped) into slavery, their experiences, and their escapes. These were often published to fuel the abolitionist movement against slavery in the 1820s-1860s and are graphic and uncompromising about the horrors of slavery, the redemptive power of literacy, and the importance of abolitionist support.
Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass - 1845 - one of the most iconic autobiographies of the 1800s, covering his early life when he was enslaved in Maryland, and his escape to Massachusetts where he became a leading figure in the abolition movement.
Running a Thousand Miles for Freedom by William and Ellen Craft - 1860 - the memoir of a married couple's escape from slavery in Georgia, to Philadelphia and eventually to England. Ellen Craft was half-white, the child of her enslaver, but she could pass as white, and she posed as her husband William's owner to get them both out of the slave states. Harrowing, tense, and eminently readable - I honestly think Part 1 should be assigned reading in every American high school in the antebellum unit.
Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Jacobs writing under the name Linda Brent - 1861 - writing specifically to reach white women and arguing for the need for sisterhood and solidarity between white and Black women, Jacobs writes of her childhood in slavery and how terrible it was for women and mothers even under supposedly "nice" masters including supposedly "nice" white women.
Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup - 1853 - Born a free Black man in New York, Northup was kidnapped into slavery as an adult and sold south to Louisiana. This memoir of the brutality he endured was the basis of the 2013 Oscar-winning movie.
Early 1900s Black Life and Philosophy
Slavery is of course not the only aspect of Black history, and writers in the late 1800s and early 1900s had their own concerns, experiences, and perspectives on what it meant to be Black.
Up From Slavery by Booker T. Washington - 1901 - an autobiography of one of the most prominent African-American leaders and educators in the late 1800s/early 1900s, about his experiences both learning and teaching, and the power and importance of equal education. Race relations in the Reconstruction era Southern US are a major concern, and his hope that education and equal dignity could lead to mutual respect has... a long way to go still.
The Souls of Black Folk by W.E.B. Du Bois - 1903 - an iconic work of sociology and advocacy about the African-American experience as a people, class, and community. We read selections from this in Anthropology Theory but I think it should be more widely read than just assigned in college classes.
Darkwater: Voices from Within the Veil by W.E.B. Du Bois - 1920 - collected essays and poems on race, religion, gender, politics, and society.
A Negro Explorer at the North Pole by Matthew Henson - 1908 - Black history doesn't have to be about racism. Matthew Henson was a sailor and explorer and was the longtime companion and expedition partner of Robert Peary. This is his adventure-memoir of the expedition that reached the North Pole. (Though his descriptions of the Indigenous Greenlandic Inuit people are... really paternalistic in uncomfortable ways even when he's trying to be supportive.)
Poetry
Standard Ebooks also compiles poetry collections, and here are some by Black authors.
Langston Hughes - 1920s - probably the most famous poet of the Harlem Renaissance.
James Weldon Johnson - early 1900s through 1920s - tends to be in a more traditionalist style than Hughes, and he preferred the term for the 1920s proliferation of African-American art "the flowering of Negro literature."
Sarah Louisa Forten Purvis - 1830s - a Black abolitionist poet, this is more of a chapbook of her work that was published in newspapers than a full book collection. There are very common early-1800s poetry themes of love, family, religion, and nostalgia, but overwhelmingly her topic was abolition and anti-slavery, appealing to a shared womanhood.
Science Fiction
This is Black history to me - Samuel Delany's first published novel, The Jewels of Aptor, a sci-fi adventure from the early 60s that encapsulates a lot of early 60s thoughts and anxieties. New agey religion, forgotten technology mistaken for magic, psychic powers, nuclear war, post-nuclear society that feels more like a fantasy kingdom than a sci-fi world until they sail for the island that still has all the high tech that no one really knows how to use... it's a quick and entertaining read.

i actually afraid that daryl fell in love with Isabel i mean he looks happy with her and laurent. i feel sad i want him with beth.
Hey anon! Sorry it took me so long.
I completely understand this, though I don't think it's likely. I'll try to offer my perspective.
My first and most basic reasoning for why I don't think that Isabelle is a true love interest for Daryl is the fact that tptb opted to make her a nun. Nuns are famously celibate. Tptb didn't have to do that. In fact, it seems a deliberate choice on their part to create a natural barrier between them in terms of romance. The fact that Isabelle made a holy vow juxtaposed with the lawlessness and general unhappiness of her life before the Fall also makes it way less likely that she would ever forsake that vow. Nothing about her characterization suggests that she is searching for romance or that she has reconsidered her vows. In fact, they already explored this notion through Sylvie, who actually DOES question whether becoming a nun is right for her. Sylvie and Isabelle discuss this in season one, in which we learn that Sylvie is very young, and that, unlike Isabelle, she hasn't had time to really experience life and make an informed choice. Sylvie, who falls in love with Emile, chooses romantic love.
From a writer's standpoint, it would be odd and also repetitive for them to double up on this theme, ie: to have both remaining nuns from the abbey forsake their vows for love. Instead, they seem to be setting up a duality between Isabelle and Sylvie: opposing but complimentary characterizations. This duality also represents a core tension inside of Daryl, ie: the tension between his desire to live a lonely, wandering, celibate life or to find love, settle down, and commit himself.
They do pressurize the bond between Isabelle and Daryl in small ways; however, it's really just a decoy for the audience. For example, the bath scene in season one. While there may be physical touching, I would categorize it as clinical and, considering how he grabs her wrist, even quasi-hostile. There is really no sexual tension between Daryl and Isabelle.
BUT, consider what I said earlier about decoys AND dualities. @twdmusicboxmystery, @wdway and I have discussed a lot in the past about Isabelle and Leah and how they are both decoys for Beth but also dualities for one another. Consider the eclipse scene in "Find Me": Leah is the moon, Isabelle is the sun. One is a force of darkness, one is a force of light. They cancel each other out. Neither one is right for Daryl, but they share a lot in common. Both Isabelle and Leah lost sisters to childbirth and raised the babies as their own. Leah lost Matthew to a walker bite, while Laurent is possibly immune to walker bites (speculation, but greatly hinted at). Leah's leader is a man who goes by the name "Pope." Isabelle is a Catholic nun, which means that her symbolic leader would be...the Pope. These are purposeful choices made by the writers to create parallels between them. We've determined that much about Leah and the situation with the Reapers is actually foreshadowing, not just for Beth, but for Isabelle. Isabelle/Leah both have blond hair (like Beth), but they both first appear to us in "disguise" with their true "Beth" hair covered (Leah with red hair in Daryl's memory, Isabelle with her habit). I also believe that the name "Leah" as well as the fact that both women seem to come to Daryl in "veils" casts both her AND Isabelle as "imposters" of sorts, as Leah in the Bible comes to Jacob in disguise, letting him think that she is Rachel, the girl he actually loves, so that he marries her by mistake.
There is a lot to say here, though ultimately I do think that, to me, the most obvious tell that Daryl and Isabelle are unlikely to be each others true loves is the fact that a.) she's a nun, and b.) they haven't gotten together already. BUT, I do think that Isabelle is meant to create drama and tension for fans, particularly shippers, especially to inure a *certain* ship to the idea that Daryl may end up with *someone,* but he is probably not going to end up with their chosen love interest. This is also the purpose that Leah served. Both remind us that Daryl is a man who is romantically interested in woman, but this doesn't mean that either will end up as his true love.
I hope this helps! ❤️

Hello hello!!
The past weekend was wild — we were expecting crumbs and getting a feast instead🥹🥹
While I seriously can’t ask for more (when start filming! What’s the release date!! Casting news!! Etc etc) so some mellow discussions—
What’s the chance for them to get Gillian Anderson for Gabrielle? I mean I would love whomever they cast, because apparent RJ indeed knows better (thank you sir thank you!!). And I have love Sara Paulson and Lena Heady all my life! Yet Gillian actually has physically resemblance to Sam’s Lestat?
And in your opinion, what’s the chance for AMC to get Matthew Macfedyen? I remember that’s Anne’s dream cast for Marius right?
And a wild choice I’ll throw out—-Lee Pace for Marius. I mean other than the obvious: amazing talent! Unbelievably gorgeous! Lee Pace has been filming in Prague last year as well and he has been working with Mark Johnson on halt and catching fire. And he is New York based and Jacob Anderson was dressed in head to toe Thom Browne for the S2 premiere (Lee’s partner is VP there)
All of these would be a wish come true, absolutely.
I am NOT sure... (no shade) - whether AMC wants to spend the money on them though. Or has the money for them.
AMC is a small network. I'm not trying to raise fears here. I think IWTV is as safe as can be, especially after this teaser debut. :)
But I am not sure whether AMC would go big bucks for big names at this point. They already have a few big names, but they had similarly incredible luck casting relatively unknown actors.
I think Rolin will cast vibe over name.
EXCEPT of course he has put another photo on the wall for the writers already^^. We'll see.
But yes, I'd love them all, that's for sure^^

Inherit the Wind is a 1960 American film based on the 1955 play of the same name written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee. The film was directed by Stanley Kramer. It stars Spencer Tracy as lawyer Henry Drummond and Fredric March as his friend and rival Matthew Harrison Brady.
It also features Gene Kelly, Dick York, Harry Morgan, Donna Anderson, Claude Akins, Noah Beery Jr., Florence Eldridge, and Jimmy Boyd.
The script was adapted by Nedrick Young (originally as Nathan E. Douglas) and Harold Jacob Smith. Stanley Kramer was commended for bringing in writer Nedrick Young, as the latter was blacklisted and forced to use the pseudonym Nathan E. Douglas.
Inherit the Wind is a parable that fictionalizes the 1925 Scopes "Monkey" Trial as a means to discuss McCarthyism. Written in response to the chilling effect of the McCarthy era investigations on intellectual discourse, the film (like the play) is critical of creationism.

me ⇨ im a new-ish writer and go by she/her. i also dont have a laptop at the moment so all of this is written on my phone, thus meaning there will be vigorous spelling mistakes.
my work ⇨ ill write what i want and what people request as long as its not weird. ill write smut, fluff, and angst for anyone. and youre all responsible for what you read, not me.
